The 2009 Liquid Nitrogen Safety Roadshow came to a successful conclusion at Edinburgh following on from equally well received events at Birmingham, London, Cardiff and Haydock.
The Roadshow was well attended with over 150 delegates over the 5 events from all aspects of the medical, biomedical and AI fields, as well as numerous Health and Safety representatives. Feedback from the delegates proved to be very positive, with many valuing the opportunity for additional training.
The event was kicked off with an entertaining and informative presentation on Liquid Nitrogen safety from Terry Broughton of Gas Safe. This attracted lots of interest and really kicked off the questions and interactive aspect of the roadshow.
After a refreshing break there followed presentations on Best Practice in Oxygen Depletion Monitoring (Chris Sawers of Crowcon) and The Merits of Liquid vs. Vapour Nitrogen Cryogenic Storage Systems (Ian Blackham of Chart Biomedical).
After lunch the closing presentations where carried out on Managing Your Cryoroom Projects (Stephen Robinson of CryoService) and Considerations for Offsite Storage and Sample Transfer (Jeremy Andrews of Fisher BioServices).
The interactive nature of the event proved to be a real bonus as the presentations provided much topic for conversation and proved thought provoking for those attending. Some of the delegates have even given themselves personal actions to carry out on their return to work.
During and after the show there was also the opportunity for the delegates to talk on a "one to one" basis with the individual presenters to discuss aspects of their presentation in greater detail.
Events such as this can only succeed with the active participation of all those involved. We would like to thank all those who attended, both presenters and delegates, for making these enjoyable, informative and successful days.
