145 Mile Race Raises £3,350 for Cancer Research UK

On 23rd May 2009 David Bryant the Business Manager for Science and Industry, competed in what is acknowledged as Britain’s longest continual race, the Grand Union Canal Run which is a staggering 145 miles long. Starting in Broad Street, Birmingham and finishing in Little Italy in London, it has a maximum time limit of 45 hours.

David stated that "The race is extremely challenging with only 40% of the starting line up normally finishing, so a hard training regime was required to be even in with a chance of reaching London".

The photograph shows David with Cathryn Vann, Category Manager for Cancer Research-UK for which he raised £3,350, and the official race certificate confirming a 16th place in a time of 39 hours 15 minutes.

Cathryn was astonished that David kept running without sleep or a reasonable break, to which he commented the following "What kept me going was the knowledge that so many people had sponsored me and that the money raised would be going to a good cause".

CryoService, a long term business partner of Cancer Research UK has recently been short listed for Supplier of the Year award, in recognition of its commitment and support to their organisation.
